A Reader Sends: Build a Powerful Wideband/Shortwave/HAM Receiver on a Tight Budget (total project under $100)

h/t Prepping Preacher

I have mentioned the RTL-SDR previously.  Powerful, inexpensive receiving tool.  The upconverter extends the coverage down into the shortwave (HF) range.

I know many of you already have an RTL-SDR and computer. Considering it’s hard to find a good SW receiver for $50 unless you get lucky at a hamfest or find one on clearance at Radio Shack, the Upconverter gets you shortwave coverage with your existing  RTL-SDR setup at a good price.  It’s no R-390, but then again it doesn’t cost $1000 and weigh 70 lbs.
